Boffin System Structure
One would expect that there would be a single hierarchical structure to fully define the structure of a typical commercial company; unfortunately this is not the case if one wishes to fully define both the operational and accounting aspects; there are at least two models operating at the same time.
The first hierarchy would be something like Group, Company, Route, Month and Shipment and
The second, something like Group, Division, Branch, Section, Route, Month and Shipment and the structures do not stop there; there are others that become apparent when one gets into the detail.
It has been interesting within the Boffin/Open design to ensure that each of these structures is considered, making it possible in the reporting aspect of the application to report on the data in all required methods, which are dictated by the structures. Most of the support for these structures comes from the structure of the operational check-digit, job numbers, which are issued automatically by the system, when needed. From the job numbers, the application is able to determine many of the other parameters without human intervention; thus avoiding human errors.
